Project Alaska: a mission to create a watch that could withstand temperatures on the dark side of the moon. In 2008, Omega released the Alaska Project with the calibre 1861, an evolution of the calibre 861 which was used for many other Moonwatch models. This watch’s upgrades includes corrosion-resistant rhodium-plating with a shuttle cam and Derlin chronograph brake to protect the watch and the teeth of the chronograph from abrasion and fatigue.
